Coastside History Museum

Best for ages 3–8+; younger kids welcome

Free

Saturdays and Sundays, 10:30am–4:30pm; extra days/times when docents are available

505 Johnston Street, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019

What it offers

Small-but-rich local history museum behind the historic 1919 jail, with artifacts and exhibits about Ohlone history, farming, railroads, surfing, and Coastside cultures

Why parents might like it

Better as a 20–45 minute “let’s pop in” stop than a big museum day. Good for a Main Street wander: look at the artifacts, peek at the native plant garden, and let kids ask the docents questions.

Before you go

The museum remains open weekends while the historic jail is closed for restoration until October 2026. Weekday openings depend on docent availability. Pair with lunch, coffee, or errands downtown.

Amenities

ADA accessible; indoor exhibits; native plant garden; knowledgeable docents; downtown nearby
